DeWalt has been making leading edge power tools for many decades. Introducing new methods, ideas, and products along the way. DeWalt has even branched out to the OPE (Outdoor Power Equipment) business and introduced the 40 Volt MAX platform. For those who are unfamiliar, the DeWalt 40V MAX platform was a “pro landscaper” system. Unfortunately, the entire line was shortly discontinued by the manufacture in the summer of 2019. However, that does not mean DeWalt’s OPE line is completely DOA. DeWalt is very much committed on providing landscaping solutions with the 20V MAX and FLEXVOLT systems. Their lineup of string trimmers, blowers, chainsaws, mowers, hedge trimmers, and pole saws are tough enough to rip through it all!

STRING TRIMMERS

The DeWalt DCST922P1 20V MAX 14” Folding String Trimmer Kit features an innovative folding hinge mechanism that reduces the length by 40% for accessible storage and quick portability. The QuickLoad Spool allows for fast and easy line replacement of the DeWalt 0.080” line (DWO1DT801). The 14” swath gives a large cutting radius for knocking down wide sections of overgrowth in one pass. The variable speed trigger offers precise power control, as well as performance and runtime management with the Hi/Lo speed control switch. This kit comes with one 20V MAX 5.0Ah battery and a 12V-20V MAX charger.

If you’re looking for a bit more power, take a look at the DeWalt DCST970X1 FLEXVOLT 60V MAX 15” String Trimmer Kit. This trimmer is designed to power through tough overgrowth and withstand everyday heavy-duty usage. The 15” cutting swath comes with 0.080” line but it also accepts 0.095” (DWO1DT915). It features a high-efficiency brushless motor that maximizes runtime and motor life, and its lightweight and ergonomic design maximizes control and minimizes stress on your arms. This particular kit comes with one 20V/60V MAX 3.0Ah battery and charger. 

BLOWERS

DCBL720P1 20V MAX Li-Ion XR Brushless Handheld Blower provides the ability to clear debris with an air volume of up to 400 cubic feet per minute at 90 miles per hour. With an ergonomic and extremely lightweight design weighing at 7 pounds, the blower is easy to control and minimizes stress on the arm. The variable speed trigger and speed lock gives the user full power control. During use it can operate at 61dB(A) and creates the ideal work situation for noise sensitive areas. In the box you’ll find one 20V Max 5.0Ah battery and a standard charger.

As part of the 60V MAX FLEXVOLT battery system of high-powered products, the DeWalt DCBL772X1 Brushless Handheld Axial Blower powers through your task with up to 600 CFM of air volume and 125 MPH. A lot more powerful than the 20 Volt counterpart! However, it does weigh a little bit more add 9 pounds. The blower features a variable speed trigger and speed lock to control the blower output. The brushless motor design is high efficiency to provide high power and helps extend runtime. The box will include one 20V/60V MAX 3.0Ah battery and charger. Personally I like the way the DeWalt designed this blower, very appealing.

CHAINSAWS

This DeWalt DCCS620P1 20V MAX 12” Chainsaw Kit adds versatility to your battery system. Gas-free operation eliminates the cold starts, fumes, carburetor issues, and maintenance involved with gas-powered chainsaws. Use it to cut beams, do demolition work, and manage tree limbs. This battery-powered chainsaw is built to handle tough construction and outdoor work. The lightweight design maximizes user control. Its brushless motor technology delivers extreme runtime and long motor life. Kit includes a 20V MAX 5.0Ah battery, charger, and a hard bar cover. 

Not convinced on the 20 Volt platform? Perhaps the 60 Volt FLEXVOLT will change your mind, like the DeWalt DCCS670X1 60V MAX FLEXVOLT 16” Chainsaw Kit. This powerful chainsaw features tool-free chain tensioning and combination tooled/toolless bar retention knob to enable proper bar clamping force. It also features a high-efficiency brushless motor to help maximize run time and motor life and auto-oiling for continuous lubrication. At a full charge, you’ll be able to make 70 cuts on a 6 x 6 pressure treated pine wood. In the box you'll be greeted with a 60V MAX 3.0AH battery, charger, and hard bar cover.

MOWERS

Lawn mowers are notorious for being gasoline powered, and electric/corded lawn mowers are not truly accepted by landscapers. This has begun to change since battery technology started to keep up with the modern world and the DeWalt DCMW220P2 2X 20V MAX 3-IN-1 Lawn Mower is a great example of this shift. This cordless lawn mower is powered by two 20V MAX batteries to deliver 2x the voltage, essentially making this a 40-volt product. The high-output brushless motor delivers powerful performance and increases torque in high overgrowth. The lawn mower's 3-in-1 capability allows for mulching, bagging, or rear clipping discharge. It is perfect for properties up to 1/4 acre. This lawn mower kit comes with two 20V MAX 5.0Ah batteries, charger, collection bag, and mulch plug. DeWalt also sells this very same lawn mower kit but with two 20V MAX 9.0Ah batteries under item DCMW220X2.

HEDGE TRIMMERS

If you’re still maintaining your lawn with hedge shears than you know it can be a tiring task. Especially on a hot summer day. Let’s get you upgraded with the DEWALT DCHT820P1 20V MAX Hedge Trimmer Kit. This has a high output motor and laser cut, hardened steel blades engineered for clean, fast cuts on branches up to 3/4 of an inch thick with 22" of blade length. The compact and lightweight 7.5 lbs. design maximizes maneuverability and minimizes stress on your arms. This kit comes with everything you need to get going straight out of the box, which includes a 20V MAX 5.0Ah lithium ion battery and a standard charger.

POLE SAWS

Are you anything like me and have a strange fear of standing on a ladder while operating a chainsaw? Well luckily for us there is a safer solution. The DeWalt DCPS620M1 20V MAX XR Brushless Cordless Pole Saw comes equipped with an 8” bar and chain to handle all of your pruning needs. It features a high efficiency brushless motor that delivers up to 96 cuts per charge. The well-balanced design and durable pole shaft extends up to 10 ft. for a total reach of 15 ft. It has an auto oiling feature for added convenience and time saving. It also features metal bucking strips for a durable cutting grip and a tree hook allows you to easily remove pruned branches. What you'll find in the box is a 20V MAX 4.0AH battery, charger, extension pole, multi tool, and sheath. Another cool feature about this pole saw is the ability to detach the chainsaw and replace it with a hedge trimmer, making it as a 2-in-1. Which is great if you have really tall tree hedges. You can either buy this as a separate attachment (DCPH820BH) or as a kit (DCKO86M1).

DeWalt is improving and pushing their Outdoor Power Equipment with new and fresh products, despite their downfall with the 40 Volt MAX platform. If you regrettably invested in this platform, do not worry too much, DeWalt ensures that the 40 Volt MAX batteries will still be available for the next few years. In fact, we still stock the batteries and chargers in house and will continue to support the 40 Volt MAX community as long as we possibly can. With all of this being said, I'm very excited to see what else DeWalt does with their 20 Volt Max and FLEXVOLT platforms. They can put a lot more effort into research and development now that the 40 Volt MAX line is out of the way. I would like to point out one last thing, FLEXVOLT batteries are backwards compatible with DeWalt 20 Volt Max tools, which is awesome! You can easily grow your 20 Volt arsenal by leaping forward to FLEXVOLT. That's a win-win scenario if you ask me.
