Assembly is required, but it's simple enough. This stand is not one of those cheap, thin, flimsy sheet metal things with sharp edges and holes that don't match. Good paint job, parts are clean cut and everything bolts up easily. For the money that's what I would expect- it's worth the extra couple of bucks. If you decide to install the shelf and operate the wheel riser from inside the framework as pictured, operating it is somewhat awkward because of the shelf getting in the way. All in all, a very nice tool stand that's sturdy and well made. My DeWalt surface planer matches up perfectly on the stand.
